Exercising Can't Be Fun

WRONG!

Okay, okay, level with me for a moment. When you close your eyes and think of exercising, you start sweating without even moving! Running, pulling muscles, lifting weights that humans shouldn't be forced to lift, simply trying to reach that eleventh push-up, and God have mercy on your soul if you don't stretch! If you don't cry after a workout or scarf down more calories than you worked off because you hated it so much, you're a real champion . . . and probably in way better shape than I!

Now, I've been trying to exercise for the past . . . three years now. It doesn't work for more than two days. Something happens every single time, whether it's getting sick, being swamped with work, or the monthly problems of women, and I'll be damned if I don't take that excuse and use it like oxygen. However, being in shape and finding the ability to go up a flight of stairs sure would be nice, I imagine.

Exercising doesn't have to be one of Hercules' Seven Labors! If you haven't tried dancing, you haven't experienced a cool exercise! The best thing about it: you don't have to be great, which is pretty cool because I suck.

As if that wasn't reason enough, I've got six pretty good excuses for you to break out the sweat pants and dance!

1. Say goodbye to mundane workouts!

There are so many different styles of dance, so many different dance video games that you can utilize, etc . . . One of the main reasons why we don't keep up with our workouts is because it's the same thing every single day . . . *yawn*. Try something different each time! And, hey, if you find something you really like and you want to get better at it, then will you even feel like you're punishing yourself by exercising?

2. Aerobic and Anaerobic

For your body to be at its healthiest, you need to perform aerobic and anaerobic movements. Dancing is a mixture of both! Aerobic movements include spinning, jumping, etc . . . . Anaerobic deals with a lot of balance, holding body weight (either your own or someone else's), or holding squat positions. Can you think of a dance you did (even a little one while messing around at age 7) that included this? Of course you can!

3. You don't have to do it alone

Go ahead, ask one of your friends to go on a four mile jog with you. I dare you. Not many will say yes, and who would blame them? But if you ask one to come over and play Just Dance, you'll get more positive reactions! I mean, seriously, you can have a great time just as a spectator!

4. Flexibility Improvement

I am deathly afraid of the splits (Thank you Proud Family!), but I can actually get pretty close to doing it now that I've been stretching and dancing more. Ever wanted to do that cool thing where you touch your toes? Come closer. I have a secret to tell you. A little closer . . . perfect . . . Dancing can help with that because going on a jog doesn't stretch your body like dancing does. All of this helps your muscles heal after a workout and decreases your chances of a sprain, too! Have you ever sprained something? Let me tell you something, it isn't fun.

5. You can be yourself!

If you take the route of doing your own thing and not using the dance games or tutorials online, then you have the freedom to do freestyle. Put your headphones in and turn up your music, whether it be Breaking Benjamin, A Fine Frenzy, Skrillex, Miranda Lambert, or Beyonce! The beautiful truth about dance is that you cannot be restricted! It is an expression, even if you're just doing it for fun!

6. You may have learned something . . . ?
During all of this fun time (we won't even call it exercise at this point!), you probably came up with/learned a pretty sick move that you can show off next time your favorite song comes on or when you're at a club!

And dancers, I don't have to tell you this, do I?

So, when you finally gather the courage to get up and push yourself a little, turn on the Wii, get your tap shoes, or get your iPod because working out doesn't have to drain all of your happiness out of your body!

Have a terrific day!

And hats off to you if you actually get up and do some physical activity today. Seriously, great job! Go you!

    Who am I?

Just a plain Jane who isn't really all that plain, exposing her soul to you. You're welcome.

Keep an eye out for new posts! And I randomly post new pictures, so peek into that sometimes, too!:)
